Setting up a 600 gallon Reef

I am setting up a 600 gallon Oceanic Tank in my living room. I have kept several reefs before but nothing this large (my largest reef is 95 gallons). I have setup the tank so that the viewing side is in the living room and the back faces my laundry room, which now has been converted into my filter room. I had an additional AC installed just for the filter room in anticipation of the heat to be generated by the six 400 watt 15000K MH pendants and the six banks of 200 watt T5 actinic fixtures. I also have a Trade Winds 1HP chiller, a Deltec evaporative cooler for temperature control. I have ordered (but not yet received) a 6' tall Volcano skimmer from Aquatic Acrylics and have a Deltec PF1001 Calcium reactor. My 600 gal Oceanic tank came complete with three overflow boxes outfitted with Durso standpipes and a 175 gallon Ecosystems Mud sump with two Ampmaster Dolphins for return. My big dilemma now is: 1)whether I want to even use the mud sump rather than turning it into my "technical sump" (for skimmer, Ca reactor, UV sterilizer, chiller and monitoring probes) or add a separate sump for that purpose, 2)I am seroiusly considering going "bare bottom", no sand substrate (a scary thought for a historical deep sand bed proponent) and 3)whether I should use a PVC "lattice" to aquascape the reef with live rock. I will take some pictures of my setup and would greatly appreciate any feedback , opinions, advice or guidance.
