setting up a calcium reactor with a gravity feed

I am getting ready to tear my tank down to move it across town. One thing I would like to differently when I set it back up would be to put in a "tee" fitting on my overflow line, and have the tee feed my calcium reactor. I get the basics on this, but want to confirm something. Do I need to have a ball valve to control flow, or because I can adjust the effluent valve will that be the only control that I need? Any other details that I may be forgeting to work out?
Thanks in advance!

I tried your idea once, and as SickFeefer says, you'll play with it constantly to adjust the drip rate.

I have decided that the only way to run a Ca Reactor ( consistently ) is with a dosing pump. It's next on my wish list.

as long as you can control the efflent drip rate, you should not need a ball valve to feed your calcim reactor. I recommend that feed your calcium reactor from the return. I would avoid tee-ing off the overflow because it may add air into the reactor.
