im looking at setting up a tank in my restaraunt. I have a number of reef tanks but dont think a full reef tank is my best choice for something i cant spend as much time on as my personal tanks. I was wonderin about what kind of equipment i would need for a say 180 fowlr. I am thinking T5 lights. I dont have a ton of room and dont know what kind of filtration would be needed, would a fx5 be sufficiant for filtration, is a skimmer needed? any help would be appreciated. How about some some easy corals just to add some color but that dont need alot of equipment and care. thanks.

IMO skimmers on FO tanks are a neccessity. I've seen many people get away with a really big skimmer and ozone. I would say, depending on you bioload and stock, you could get away with this as equipment:

Lighting
heaters
live rock (for looks and filtration)
Big skimmer
ozone

Skimmers w/Ozone and a denitrator will reduce maintance needs and make your life easier in restaurant , and will make it possible to have a crystal clear water as for restaurant a clean image matter more than which fish you keep...

I use an FX5 on one of my tanks. They flat out kick butt. But you def. need a skimmer to go with it. My water is always crystal clear.

FO clean is different from reef clean  I don't like running the canister filtration on saltwater. It's best to use as little filter media as possible with FO because they will make the nitrates high alone, and you don't need your equipment making it worse.
