Much cheaper routers than that also would work... All it really needs to do is support wireless bridges or WDS.
With that you wire the Apex to the router and power it. Then the new router connects to your existing wireless network wirelessly, seamlessly adding the Apex into the existing network (as well as adding more wireless coverage with the new access point).
You are correct, but if the OP wants a Plug and Play way and no additional configurations to deal with, this is the ticket. You plug them in, and and you are finished.
If the OP wants a high tech solution, your option works great.
