Setting up frag tank, opinions wanted

Main question is this, do I plumb it into the main system, or do I need it seperate on its own system. I am leaning toward just putting another bulkhead into the sump, and running it to my external pump, into the tank, then let it drain back into sump.

Also what type of lighing would be best for a tank 18" deep for frags, dont want to fry them. All my tanks have always been 30"

Thanks all

I would just use lower wattage MHs, then they'll half ways acclimated to the big tank anyways, and grow

and since color doesnt matter, I'd rock only 6500k's to get max growth

plumbing it into main system
pros - instant acclimation, just click, cut, and paste into new tank
cons - if you get a diseased frag you'll spread it

your call

Depends. If you're just fragging then go ahead and plumb it to the system.

If you're going to quarantine coral then obviously don't plumb it.

Lighting. You can do 150w halides or T-5s

Thanks leighton, THAT was helpful

:D :D

well what are you asking for, fluid dynamics of plumbing an additional tank in?

honesly I can't see any reason you would not plumb it in, and I would make it all gravity fed and use a few powerheads inside the frag tank

no need for any pump action

edit: a long tank would work better for the flow

you should have bought one of those frag tanks on sale at planet reef 72x18x11h for $249 and then put the drain on one end and let that water move the full 6 feet

are those things real? all natural baby

the tank is cube with center overflow so the flow should be good depending on which pump I use. I think I am going to plumb it into the system as I want the water skimmed and am not going to buy another skimmer

i enjoy beer and seeing other people's tanks.

also i wouldn't do something like that if you couldn't plumb it into my main system to take advantage of all the dodads you have hooked up to it. also i'm lazy.
