Setting up powerhead and temperature controller with chiller

I just bought an in-line chiller. Since I am putting the chiller on a temperature controller, I guess that the power head that feeds the intake should remain on 24 by 7 and not on the same circuit as the chiller. My logic is that temperature controllers have 1 or 2 plugs (1 for cold and the other for hot), so do I keep the powerhead feeding the chiller on constantly, and then the chiller itself only goes on when hot.

I am assuming it's not a good idea to put the powerhead on the same switch as the chiller. Then the powerhead is off whenever the chiller is off. Is this bad?

Thanks much,

I would like to know as well...is it necessary to run the pump to the chiller 24/7 or only when the chiller kicks on?

Firewill65,

I was told that I should run this powerhead 24 X 7 because I don't want to have to worry that the powerhead may start up and that it will be less stress on powerhead by not turning it on and off.

What I did was add a UV on this powerhead to get dual use of the powerhead.

PS. Make sure to oversize your chiller. You don't want to buy one and find out that it is not powerful enough.

PSS. On the out take of the hose, I bought a U-tube to keep the hose weighted in tank. Also, after a few months, this powerhead had clogged. So it's a good idea to check it once in a while.

Hope this helps.

Run the pump 24x7. Otherwise you run the risk of the chiller coming on without the pump running, which will cause the chiller to freeze up and run constantly till you stumble on the problem and turn off the chiller ;)
