Setting up two 6055's

I just bought 2 new 6055's. The instruction manual that comes with it isn't really that much informative. My question is should I start off trying it with the tab on the 12v first or just go for the 24v? I have a 125 All Glass Aquarium corner drilled if that helps. Also do I have to turn the power off each time I want to try a different voltage?

You can switch voltage on the fly, on a 125 I think you will need the full 24V.
