Hey,

I am going to buy a custom tank that is 48x24x17" it is going to be sps with some frogspawn. I am thinking two 6060's in opposite rear corners. Not sure if I should get one controlled stream and controller or two. I don't have a ton of money to spend ($300). It is drilled for a CL and I will hopefully be able to downgrade the cl pump and add the streams.

Thanks

tom

Is 17" the depth? If you are using fine sand a Stream will not be appropriate. The tank is shallow and it is going to make it hard to keep sand down. Anything over 2mm grain size though should work. I have always liked knop reefbase it is very clean white and it is like a pulvarized limestone so it is free of bound phosphates or contaminants. A single 6000 stream with a single controller in combination with a small closed loop using say a mid size GRI pump (I like the GRI, fairly quiet, very low energy consumption and easy to service) and you should be all set. If you will be using fine sand I would get a 7400/2 as that will be your only hope to keep the sand down in such a shallow tank but still get a high fairly random current. The 7400/2 comes in about $10 over your budget with the controller and the 6000 is about $5 under. The key here is sand bed because it is such a shallow tank- which is nice, don't get me wrong.

Thanks roger.

It is a weird custom size 95 gallon 48"Lx24"W and 17" tall. No sand bed for me. So stick with the controller and one 6000. Do you think I could replace the cl with two streams?

Thanks

tom

You might try one first- it is quite feasible one with a sump return on a sea swirl would be all you need. I just thought you were set on the loop.
