i have i hydnophora thats curved... the curved part doesnt get light,so there is loss of color and a little tissue loss.....the side that gets light looks very healthy(good color and tissue)....is this normal with the shaded side of sps?

Be careful once my hydnophora colony started to loose tissurle it wouldn't stop. It was massive probably covered a 12 by 12 rock with many branches, I came back from vacation and all I could save was one branch. It's not peeling off and turning to jelly is it?

Are you sure its tissue loss and not just becoming a part of it with no polyps?

On my undersides i get color loss / skin that looks smooth and i have no issues with the coral.

I believe Flow is the answer. my SPS pieces with ALOT of flow, have color and PE on the side that gets no light as well.
and I have some SPS colonies who do not get that much flow underneat, and those turn white and loose their color, but not tissue.

+1 The undersides of alot of my sps colonies lose color as well.

thats exactly whats going on...the other side looks great with lots of polyps and the shaded side is smooth with lighter color skin....its good to know its normal

My hydnophora didn't have thoes problems on shaded spots, a powerhead went out and that was what made it start to die when I was on vacation, just lack of flow.
