shallow tank?

I am in the planning stages of another clownfish and anemone tank and was contemplating on going with a shallow tank( 12 or 13" tall). I like the idea of looking down on my critters. I figure that some of the advantages would be better lighting penetration and easier maintenance. Is anyone else keeping a shallow clownfish/anemone tank? Is this a good plan or am I way off base? Any comments would be helpful.

i have a 45 gallon cube right now, its dimensions are 24" x 24"x 18". i actually really enjoy its depth alot, and once i can find myself a carpet anemone to place in there, it will be even sweeter.

there is a wonderful amount of light penetration, and yes, looking down on my corals and such is pleasant.

I am thinking about the doing the same thing some day in the near future. One thing to consider about the "looking down" part that I am starting to realize, the current that breaks up the water surface makes it difficult to enjoy the view from the top.
I'm not saying don't do it, just that it is something to consider when you are designing it.

and thats definetely true. on my 45 gallon, the flow comes from two 3/4 sea swirls with modified outlets, so the flow then is aimed more or less down at an angle. theres barely any surface agitation and so unlimited visibility downward. however, in contrast in the 60 gallon right next to it, a significant amount more flow exits from two 1" without the nozzles, so the surface is definetely broken up and almost impossible to see downward. in the future im going to try to make those two 1" outlets similar to the 3/4", and have them more modified and aimed lower than the waters surface, thereby increasing visibility downward.

I just had my dream tank made..Its a 40x40x20 cube (roughly 140 gal.)..Ive always wanted a shallow tank...I should be getting it in a couple of weeks. Im a clownfish/SPS junkie so, its gonna be a nice, shallow reef.
