Shape of the tank

I have a traditional rectangle 29G tank. Thinking about something that is more vertical and with a smaller footprint.

Does the shape of the tank matter? I'm asking because on a longer tank, I imagine there is more area to swim. I don't know...

Thinking about a new tank.

One clown fish. FOLR.

Most fish swim side to side not up and down. So the longer the tank you can add certain fish. If you just want a couple clownfish it shouldn't matter either way.

^ Right. Long tanks give you more options with fish choices. They will also give you more options with aquascaping a coral reef should you ever want to go that way.

I agree with all of the above. I would also add that lighting can be an issue if you ever decide to go reef. There are lighting options available but it is a consideration.

Yes all the above, surface area for 02/gas exchange, swim space and light penetration are main issues, cleaning tall tanks can be a bummer too.

In addition to what has been stated, the actual "shape", even if rectangular plays a role. I have an 8' dual bullnose racetrack style 450G that makes for considerable difficulty getting water flow exactly the way I want it. Frustrating actually!
