Hello. After 18 months of having long-tentacled RBTA, my anemone started to bubble up. :):)
Here are some pics. Click on pic for larger picture.

Don't know why it started bubbling up, but here are the things that have been done in the past 3-4 months:

Increased water changes 10 to 15% each week. I did this to fight my algae problem.

My 10k Ushio SE MH bulb is about 8 mos overdue to be changed. :hmm4:

I removed my iwaki 20RX close loop pump because I added a Seio 820 about 6 months ago.

I suck up stuff inside the tank during water changes. I do this now to combat my algae problem. I used to just take the water from the manifold in the stand.

I notice that stress RBTA bubble. I'm not say unhealthy RBTA bubble. I'm just saying that all the stress RBTA I saw all have bubble.

Really. Oh man. I thought it was getting healthy.

As for the different color, it's just the lighting and the camera. It was never that red.

This one has bubble for a while before the color came back. It's just something I notice. It could be true and could be not. I really like to know why some have bubble and some don't..

i agree,
BTA bubble up when they are stressed, well thats one of the reasons why they bubble up. no one knows how many other reasons there are:) is it staying at its position or moving? i think the extra water changes could be the reason.
i remember reading somewhere, if you feed your bta daily and then do major water changes back to back, it will split and anemones split either coz they have grown big and are healthy or coz they are kicking in the species preservation tactic:)
i hope this makes sense.

p.s. you rbta looked really nice with an without the bubbles.

Did you add any new fish? My RBTA never "bubbled" until I added a Raccoon Butterfly to the tank and then it did so nearly immediately. My assumption was that by pulling itself in tighter, there was less of itself sticking out there for its natural predator to bite at. I never worried about adding the Raccoon though in that respect because the clownfish hosting in it chased the butterfly away from their anemone!

No changes other than what I mentioned above. My clown fish doesn't chase any thing away. She's tank-bred and she's a real push over.

Elite, how long have you had that neon BTA? I'm just wondering if they stay neon pink. These guys look cool, but I've never seen one in a LFS.

The guy who sold me my bta has a one like yours.

Thanks snabss. Of course now I have to do more reseach. I really like the bubbles but I don't want to stress the little fellow.

It's not neon pink :D ...It wasn't in a good shape. That's why I said all the stress RBTAs I saw have bubble tips.
This is what is looks like now (it's not happy because I took the pic after working on the tank)

The bubbles associated with stress may explain why most in captivity don't bubble after time. Could be the equivalent reaction of the puffer fish.

And no, the "pink dayglow" is not healthy, looks way better good job!!!

.......I went looking for a healthy bta today, and was suprised by all the bleached and dyed ones still around. I hadn't shopped for one in a while and thought the dyed ones were a thing of the past.

Gotta love the dayglow yellow ones......oh yeah that looks natural!!! Even saw a blue one, cmon guys!!!
