well the time has come to atleast purchace all my equipment and supplies for my shark tank. i will be getting a bamboo egg. im going to cycle the tank for a wile, maby 2-3 months i know they like super fine sand so i will find the finest sand i can(any recomendations?) i will be getting a pretty good size protein skimmer rated for 200-300 gallons the tank size im looking for is about 200-250 gallons it will be setup with a 55 gallon sump. my question to you is, should i put any live rock in the tank or will it possible cut the shark? also how do you hatch the egg? any kind of advice and recomendations would be great! thanks.

Im no shark expert but most people have LR with their sharks. I don't think they are quite that delicate :P I think lots of people try to limit the amount they have in the display tank to leave lots of swimming room though. Maybe you can have a bunch of it in the sump?

Sounds like your going to be good and patient which is key for success with sharks. Good luck!

yea im pretty much forced to be patient im a junior in high school and money is limited haha so im taking things one step at a time. total, my estimation was around 1500-2000 bucks max if i want to do it right and not have to worry about upgrading the tank. im not have much luck finding a 200 gallon tank in my area thow, i might expeirement and try to make a plywood tank if i have no luck within the next month or so cause i really want to get this started. anyone else have anything to say or have any advise?

Have you looked on your local craigslist for a tank?

I would also reccomend that you get a shark that is allready eating and a decent size about 6-8 inches.
Most eggs do not hatch and when they do only about 2-5 sharks make it and start eating.

I would also consider getting a coral cat shark instead of a bamboo, they are much more active and stay smaller.

I have kept sharks for 5+ years and have kept all but the requiem sharks.

Feel free to ask me any questions you would like.

hmm interasting your a good person to know if your in my shoes haha

i never heard of a coral cat shark how much do they run price wise?

wow i did a search on google and i think personaly they are way more attractive!!! thanks for bringing that up the only tank tamed shark i have ever heard about is the bamboo are there any other kind out there? how big does the coral cat grow to be?

ooh and i looked on craigslist but didnt have any luck with the size tank i want. i am really considering making a plywood tank because i have plenty of plywood and 4x4s alls i need is fiberglass and marine epoxy and a big piece of glass i think but i'll keep looking because glass tanks are nicer, i think atlease

I would second the coral cat shark, much better suited to a small shark tank, without the problem of relocating them like you would a bamboo shark once it got too large for your tank.

im deffinatly going to do the coralcat its so awesome bamboos are nice but they dont have much coler the corals are friken sweet haha

i was just reading and it says they are really touchy to salinity changes and temperture changes, exactly how touchy are they?
