Shaving brush

I was just looking at my refuge and noticed what looks to be a new stalk of shaving brush. Does anyone now if this how they grow. I was just wondering how it just started growing there. Pretty cool none the less. I added 2 24w t5 6500k bulbs over this setup and my macros have started going crazy.

yup, that's exactly how they grow. even if a stalk dies, don't remove it as you'll usually get a batch of new shoots popping up in no time. same goes for Udotea (mermaids fan), and some Halimeda's.
