Shedding leather

I was wondering what is happening when the leathers "shed." When they build up the mucous and the polyps are not out. Is it best to blow it off or let it go? Thanks for any help in advance.

If the leather is in good flow already i would just let it do its thing.

When mine gets really shiney or you can see loose skin I blow it off with a turkey baster, but you can leave it alone if youd like, it will eventually come off.

Shedding is normal, supposedly helps with growth (although mine are never noticeable larger after shedding) and removing nuisznces like algae or cyano.
