Shell Rot / Dying Shrimp? :(

I rescued a peacock mantis from my LFS and he has quite a bit of shell rot, but I wanted to give him a good home if he was having a bad time in his tiny tiny tank in there. He's a good 5-6 inches.

He doesn't seem to be able to see that well and sometimes bashes into things in his tank... does this mean he's going to die? I love him to bits already and am doing my best to help him...is there anything you can recommend to help?

He eats well on marine mix frozen food and shrimp, but I have to give them directly to him or he doesn't seem to be able to see or find them :(

post up some pics and I'm sure others will be able to help more than I can. I assume the tank he is in is low light?

Yeah low light, perfect params, lots of hiding spaces. I'll try to get a pic of him later when he ventures out, he's in his cave at the mo.

Depending on how severe the shell rot is, you may be able to force a molt. That is where you just feed more and he/she will molt off the shell rot.
I've heard/read that UV helps.
Unfortunately, Large Peacocks (if I am not mistaken ) are prone to shell rot.

yes...YES!!!

I just remembered that Dr. Caldwell stated a week or 2 back that to help REDUCE THE CHANCE OF SHELL ROT APPEARING on his mantis shrimps he uses UV steralizers on his tanks! PERHAPS it could help well at the very least it will help prevent more shell rot!

If I had a O.scyllarus I would consider UV steralization a PRIMARY form and part of the overall filtration system for its tank.
