black gill spike is probably just a colour variation due to hybridisation. it's just random.

not all shepardis have black gill spikes. just probably some minor colour difference.

i live on Guam, and have had one of these for 3 months now (locally collected). An awesome fish that acclimates easily.

Well shepardi/false shepardi whatever it is now home. The LFS had it for a while and tempted us every week we went in there. My wife finally said she wanted it as her valentines gift in lieu of jewelery so I agreed right away (also helped with buy one get one 50% off and our new dracula goby as well). The funny thing is I forgot my wallet at home so i had to call the wife to come pay for our stuff and boom now we have an angel, so always remember your wallet:
