Sherman rose or rbta for sps tank?

Thinking about taking the plunge for my onyx clowns. Which will spare me the heartache of losing sps and is easily contained/controlled?

after - I just place it away from any other coral - gave it a good rock to seat into, not too much flow hitting it, and it stayed put.

Place it in rock that has a nice hole in it so it can seat it's foot into it.
Mine doesn't like a lot of flow - can't speak of others.

I have a RBTA in my 120 gallon sps tank. Despite setting up a little rock cave in a great location with what I thought would be perfect flow & light, after putting it in, it roamed around for a few days and found a totally different spot to settle. Fortunately it is very happy there and it hasn't move since, but it has grown HUGE. I've had it for about 18 months, and it has split once. The two clones stayed right next to each other and are taking up a lot of real estate on the right side of my tank - I've have had to move several SPS out of it's way as it has grown.

My clowns love it and so do I, but they aren't for everyone. Just realize that it is a bit of a gamble. You'll have to watch it very very closely the first few days because there is a good change it will move around until it finds a spot it likes & can kill any corals it comes in contact with. Also, realize that it will grow quickly and eventually start splitting off clones (which can be pretty hard to remove if they settle somewhere you don't want them). If you have lots of really expensive corals it may not be worth the risk. If it's something you really want though, it is definitely possible with a little extra care. They sure are beautiful, especially with clowns in them!

I have no problem with my 7 RBTA's in my heavy SPS tank. They roamed around until they got comfortable and dont bother my sps at all. -Steve

I had a RBTA for over a year. Started out innocent enough when it was the size of a silver dollar. After a few months it grew to softball size... then mini basketball. Thats when it started moving and killing my corals. I would never recommend a RBTA to anyone that has prize corals in the tank with it. It will kill them.
