Never mind solved my on mystery! LOL!!!

"At The 450,000-gallon shark habitat, come face-to-tooth with some of the ocean's most mysterious creatures, including the only hammerhead sharks on display in North America."

But hey I did say "most". :) BTW note the size of the tank! LOL!

LOL!!! I understood what you meant, but just thought I'd throw it out there that I have seen the Hammerheads in public! :D (gotta love living 10 minutes from the park and actually working there, get to spend my breaks walking around the park!!!) :D

Monkey- Your right - only VERY few aquariums house hammerheads. They ship terrible and are not the easiest of display animals to keep. It's not a pack it in a box and ship it away kind of animal.
Most aquariums house bonnetheads. They are easily acquired, don't get as big, hardy and are available as pups seasonally..
Shipping a hammerhead would be very tough without the right tools. Look up www.dynastymarine.net They are the premiere shark collectors in the aquarium trade unless you have other connections.
Last time I saw a hammerhead on there availability list is was 4' and $14,000.:eek1:

While it is true that most public aquaria prefer to exhibit the bonnethead, Sphyrna tiburo; Sea World in San Antonio did exhibit a number of scalloped hammerheads, Sphyrna leweni, for a number of years

....but you have to consider that S. leweni pups can be easily collected on the shore here in Texas during the summer, thus transport was not an issue and the specimens were of managable size.

dam i hope your not paying for shipping. our sharks were 180 american before they landed. when they landed they were closer to 1500 each. (black tip, 2 feet long)

The validity of your post and position aside, please find a more appropriate manner to express it.

Some oceanariums want large animals. Ever been to a public aquarium? ever been to a zoo? Where do you think those animals come from.

Take the Atlanta aquarium with their large animals.

The stance you are taking is great but you are doing it the wrong way.

I send all types of animals all over for more things than just your home aquarium.

Pactrop,
We use airline approved live fish transport containers.
They start at about 5'x4'x4', thermo controlled plastic with two airpumps built into the lid. They also have heating capabilities.
Clove oil is normally added to the water as well to sedate the animals a little.
Some aircraft lease them. Make some calls. (QANTAS normally do).

if you get REALLY desperate, I might be able to send one across to you.
Ps Buyer pays for the return leg too.

New they are about 2K each (small ones).

Hammerheads require stronger sedation, ie anaesthetics eg quinaldine (work on about min $500 worth of anaesthetic to get it there, plus vet bills)
