Hello,

Anyone have any idea how much it is to ship a larger tank....say 240 gallons across country? Just a ballpark is fine.....see some tanks i like but arent close to me.

Thanks!

unless you have a corporate rate with a shipper already it doesnt make sense because they charge you by the pound and size. I got a price quote from texas to florida for a water storage container and they wanted more for the shipping then the container cost. Why can't you buy local? There are builders in the NE I'm sure.

It shouldnt be too bad, they will ship it in a truck, i got mine (600) shipped from nevada to colorado for $400 and it took 3 days I think. I would think a 240 would be around $300 -$350 but then again mine only went a couple states, further could be more, I'd ask the tank builder, they do it eveyday i'm sure they have a rough idea.

For cross-country, you can look at an average of $.80/lb. It's more in some areas like NYC, Boston, and Miami it seems as well, not sure about Philadelphia but I figure it shouldn't be too bad as there alot of freight coming out of that region. Remember to include any packaging (crates, pallets, etc) in your total weight and any surcharges such as residential, liftgate, inside delivery, etc. It's not uncommon for these surcharges to add $150-200 depending on your needs. Many carriers do not want to ship fish tanks at all though (liability I suppose) so you might have shop around based on this as well.

My 280 gal made of 3/4 inch starfire weighs in at about 900 lbs with the packing.
It cost $300 to ship across Canada about 10000km but another $200 to go to my house and unload it.
So in the end $500.00
The stupid thing is I am within pickup distance of both Miricles in Glass and Aquarium Obsessed but Miricles dosn't sell to the public (at least not local) and AO was double the price, even with shipping costs added.

Hey ruiny where did you get your tank from?
Did they actually move it right into your house?

I got it from Inter-American
No, not into the house. But onto the floor of the garage.

As a side note, Inter-American price was great and the service was good, it took 4 weeks longer than promised and it is not as nice to look at as some other tanks. The finish is rough.

My 500 gallon tank shipped from Pheonix, AZ to Ocean City MD ( via Menlo Trucking Co. ). It cost $210. The driver left it on the curb, and I payed him another $50 to get it closer to the house.

Joey,
Was it a glass tank?
How much did it weigh?
How did you get it into the house and on the stand?

I had my 400 gal shipped from InterAmerican. The trucking company they used would only take it to the local truck "headquarters". They don't deliver to any residence. They gave me the name of a local trucking company I could call. I called the company and arranged for them to pick it up at the trucking company and deliver it to my home. I explained the size (8 ft by 3 ft) and the weight (over 1400 lbs) to the woman and asked her if I needed to have any special equipment ready to unload the tank. She assured me that it wouldn't be necessary as the truck had a lift gate that could handle it.
When the delivery truck arrived the driver asked me if I had a forklift to get the tank off the truck because there was no way the lift gate alone could do it as it couldn't be maneuvered onto the gate due to its size. He would have had to take it back except I was lucky that the house next door was under construction. They had some sort of rough-terrain forklift vehicle. For a case of beer he drove it over and they were able to unload the tank.
The lesson I learned is to make sure you have the details arranged ahead of time and don't trust anything you are told about the delivery capabilities if it sounds questionable unless it comes directly from the driver of the truck.

It was acrylic, and I think it weighed 900 lbs. I just used the brute strength of 8 men to lift it into the house then move it to the stand. Luckily we never had to move it farthur then 15 feet.
