Shipping survival statistics for different species

Hi there,

I want to thank you for the beautiful Aussie Elegance that is doing fabulously today!

After the loss of the B&G blenny in shipment and reading the thread about the guy who lost a ton of Anthias from diff shipments, I wonder if it would be feasible to provide customers with a shipping statistic -- like, below the care info perhaps the statistic as to what percent die in shipment to the customer from you. I know that this won't make you look great, but in the same token it would be an honest move that would set you apart and would really apply for all companies since you all have some of the best shipping methods.

This might help a customer choosing between two species if one has a better shipping survival rate:) Even though you have a money back guarantee, that doesn't save the fish and I would prefer to buy species that ship well.

Thanks again for the great coral. My experience with getting inverts and coral is now 2 for 2 with my green carpet a couple of years back coming in to me in the best of health and now the Aussie Elegance.

:)

Angela,

Thank you for your post and suggestions. We have some exciting new changes coming to our Live Aquaria website during phase two or our redesign project. We will forward your suggestions on, and we appreciate your concern for our livestock.

The animals that don`t ship well from DFS- don`t ship well from anywhere. DFS divers den animals have the best chance of surviving the stress of shipping, due to the QT period they go through. A Better solution is to do the research personally on the species in question industry wide. I would hate to see DFS take any rap for all the things that happen once the animal leaves their care.

Hi, I think you are wrong here.

I have much faith in the Drs! Please do not mistake me. I just think, since they go through the trouble to report so many other things on the animals, and there are not great resources available to find out about good vs bad shippers, that it would be wise to include it. Heck, a lot of the research that I do on the animals I choose comes from there site.

jmo. I do not think they are taking a wrap. It would be an honest thing to include the statistic. They are doing a lot for the hobby, why not this?

My rational is that if the Drs have a great % for anthius- say 70%- it might seem low to people that didn`t know that 10% is average. Also it is usually a shipping issue when the Drs have problems, and it is out of their hands at that point. I only pointed out doing the research on species so you could get a broad sample, while the Drs experiences would be more anecdotal. I could understand them saying something broader as in good moderate or difficult shipper- based on industry knowlege- but not their personal statistics.

Newreeflady and syrinx,

We want to thank both of you for your posts. We certainly consider everything mentioned as we try to offer the best services available. Regarding the LiveAquaria 14 day guarantee, we have an excellent survival rate. Even though we monitor the losses very closely, due to varying circumstances with each shipment sent and the large variety of fish we sell, it would be difficult to provide accurate statistics on the shipping survival rates of each species and then also make sure that the statistics are kept updated.

However, as Michelle stated in a previous post, we have forwarded the suggestion to our Aquatic’s Director for review and it is possible that we may be able to add more information to our site regarding the difficulty of shipping certain fish. We definitely want everyone viewing our web site to be able to find the information needed to properly acclimate their new arrivals and keep them healthy. We continue to add educational articles to our LiveAquaria Information Center, Drs. Foster and Smith’s Pet Health Library, and our PetEducation.com site to help answer any questions that may arise. If any information is not readily available on these web pages or in the quick stats located online, please feel free to contact our LiveAquaria Department at 1-800-334-3699. The LiveAquaria Department hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and we would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding the live stock we sell.
