Shipping to Alaska

This is my first posting, have been lurking for awhile. Can I get a shipment to Alaska in the winter, or do I need to wait for spring? Also, what would the weight of "the package" be for a 90 gallon tank. Shipping charges? Closest airport is Anchorage (ANC).

Hiya cold neighbor!

As you know everything cost more in Alaska......I have shipped there many times. Last time the freight was about $1.65 a pound to ANC via Delta airlines. First 1/2 of a 90 will weigh about 270 pounds.......second 1/2 about 190 pounds....let me check on flights and will get back with you!

I will say, best fishing I have ever had out of Seward!

Wow, the shipping cost for your 90 gallon is $759 (OUCH) (using $1.65/lbs to AK) and it's 71% of the total cost of the package of $1,073. I too have been lurking in this forum to gain valuable information as I'm about to set up a 55g tank. I also live in Anchorage, AK. And, I'm also set on buying Richards live rocks after reading positive reviews after positive reviews. But, I'm hesitant to pull the trigger due to the high shipping costs.

Richard,

If possible, can you ship your live rocks via Alaska Airlines. I have a friend that works for Alaska Airlines and she get's, I think, 85% discount on the shipping cost and she's willing to help me out. Thanks!

Yup...Alaska costs more three times more than anywhere else in the US to ship too....unfortunately Alaska airlines has no cargo terminal here in Tampa.....let me check on a freight forwarder to see if this may be possible with ground transportation from Tampa to Orlando...then on to ANC

We pay a high price to live in this state, that is a fact. Looking forward to hear if there is less expensive option thru Alaska Airlines. Unfortunately I don't have a friend that works there, bummer. I thought I would have water in my tank by now but I am waiting on the right size bulkheads to come...they are coming ground freight via the scenic Canadian route apparently.

Everything else is all set...empty and waiting.

Alaska Airlines

Just out of curiosity I looked on the Alaska Airlines site and used their cargo calculator to get an idea of how much the freight charge would be out of Orlando. It came in at just under $1 per pound. But of course the ground freight to Orlando could eat up the savings.
