Im looking at setting up a tank with this combo and was wondering if anybody has any experience with it? What's the minimum size? Are they hard to keep?

I have a tiger pistol shrimp and yellow wathchman goby in a 5.5 gallon and they're doing just fine. Been there over 8 months.

There are some issues to address though.

First, the shrimp needs building materials, My tank has 2" of rubble under the sand.

Second, the shrimp will move everything around and tunnel endlessly. Any rock needs to be firmly on the bottom glass. Any corals/frags need to be attached to rock the shrimp can't move, which means rocks larger than the shrimp.

Third, gobies are jumpers, secure your top accordingly.

Finally, I target feed the shrimp every couple of weeks. Don't know if this is necessary but the way he hides I wonder if he gets enough food. Unlike a larger tank there isn't much area to scavenge in a 5.5.

Cool, looks good. One thing im a little unclear about it the aquascaping and building materials etc. What all do you need to supply for a species tank for just these two inhabitants

i have a alpheus randalli and a high fin banded goby in a 11 gallon nano , and as agu says make sure the live rock you use as the base is secure, because the pistol shrimp will dig tunnels all under and round it , so you dont want it collapsing. for building material what i did was take a hammer to one piece of live rock and smash it into small pieces , no bigger than 1/2 inch and just scattered them around the tank. The pistol soon moves them about, and i have no pieces lying on the sand anymore, they've all been moved by the shrimp.

they're fascinating to watch ,especially if you an already paired up shrimp and goby

they're not that hard to pair up , its just you've got to make sure you get a shrimp and goby that normally pair up, wetwebmedia is a good source for this info, there are some types that dont pair together, and then you just have to ake sure they can find each other in the tank, should be ok in a nano
