i saw the sticky already i would liek to see what macro you guys are using along with your best shot with it. also when a lense says just SLR does it mean it will not work with my DSLR. and do shops just not list lesnes as DSLR..

I own a Nikon D3000

Any of the lenses on this list will work.

If I may add, I've made a list of the most commonly-used macro lenses for the Nikon mount:

The 3000 doesn't have a motor in the body, so if auto focusing is a must, you need AF-S for Nikon lenses, or the newer versions of Sigma and Tamron will have HSM. This means the lens has a motor in it for focusing. If taking pics of a tank, most likely you'll be using manual focus, but my Sigma is also a very capable lens in other areas that I use auto focusing in.

I just bot the tamron 90, its great. I am sure the nikon 90 vr which cost twice as much might be 1% better.
