Short Tenacle Torch is sick

From the white on the torch you still haven't put it into higher flow which is why it's still dying. Revive dip + higher flow.

I got sand in it on my water change so I blew it out and put it in a higher flow.

Could have been death blow we will see

second water change with Red Sea so I am expecting to see increase in cal from tropic marin

I need to get a 10 gallon bucket -independently making 2- 5 gallons is kind of annoying. hobby is all about scale I see why everyone just keeps getting pushed bigger lol

Water changes won't fix your parameters, additives will. Think about it if your calcium needs to be for instance 400 and it's 350 then a 50% water change with 400ppm water will get you to 375, 50% more will get you to 387. So now you've changed your entire water volume but the calcium isn't near 400 and will still be dropping from being used in the tank. You can do infinity water changes with water that has calcium of 400 and will still never hit 400 in your display.

When your parameters are off your options are additives or additives, or possibly additives if you don't like the first two options. Don't waste a ton of money chasing something that's mathematically impossible.

Agreed- I am dosing ESV Bi Ionic- well it is 2 part but just using calcium until I get calcium right. I do 9-10 gallon change of 36 weekly so I should get about a 20pt uptick.

I was told by LFS to use kent superbuffer dkh in my top off, and just have been blindly following. That said maybe that is why I am not getting Calcium were I want it?

Don't you have to get Mag where you want it first before doing anything with Ca or Alk?

I also have read that once you get your Big three where you want them to add Pickling lime to the top off water and it will more or less lock in the numbers.

Yep looks like it- I got that to 1400 and start seeing my cal go right up

part of my problem has been my traveling for work, and not wanting the wife to dose

I get that the LPS use Calcium to build, but some how the other two are the other side of that equation. I really need to read up. The article linked a lot just as well be Chinese though. chemistry was never my thing- math yes chemistry no lol

You can add either cal or alk to your top off water but not both at the same time. This way she can dose it by just doing FW top offs

that is a good idea- I need to read that kents super dkh buffer- see why I am using. Outside of the LFS just telling me this is what you do. I assumed the RODY water PH was low so that is why they had me buffer it. I need to get an understanding of PH too- sounds like if you get cal and alk right you really shouldn't worry about it. Or not chase it as you have told me a few times lol

If your Alk is in range so is your PH, I never test my PH and probably never will. Sure I've got a kit around here somewhere but it's like more than 10 years old :D

PH is mostly important in FW and not so much in SW like I said as long as your Alk is in range
