Should I be concerned?

I picked up an encrusting Montipora sp. (if you can ID please let me know, the LFS employee told me the species name....but they say memory is the first thing to go you know) on Saturday. Here is a picture from earlier today where I placed it in the sandbed for light acclimation:

Tonight, I moved him (her/them!?) up a bit and noticed how pale it was around the bottom. I honestly cannot say if the frag was this pale when I got it or not:

And another, maybe clearer:

Tank parameters are good and within reef limits for the most part. I'm trying to raise my Mag just a bit (1100 when I tested on Saturday) by adding 5 ML Tech-M (Saturday, tomorrow, Thursday - test again). Calcium 410, no detectable Nitrates, pH steady at 8.2-8.3, temp 78-79, and alkalinity 8-9 dKH.

Tank has a brand new 14K 150w Phoenix bulb (put in Saturday morning before I went to the LFS and picked up the frag).

I'm running Purigen and BioChem Zorb in my media basket (along with floss changed at a minimum every other day).

I do not have a phosphate test kit at the moment (Tropic Marin kit was way expired when I broke it out) but plan on picking one up tomorrow even though I know the reading won't mean much. I'm not running any phosphate removal media (short of what the Bio Chem Zorb may do) and plan on getting the API Phos Zorb product also tomorrow (I don't have room to plumb a media reactor for phosban or other GFO) for the media basket.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions are appreciated. Am I jumping the gun or should I just observe and give it some time?

Thanks,

in short no. that's an undata and it looks just fine to me. At the absolute worst some of the lower part was shaded by the sand a little causing the slight discoloration.

unless i am missing something there is no need to worry about that one.

I completely agree with this post.

Looks great :)

BTW - Did you dip or quarantine?

Thanks for the replies. M. undata, got it! No, I didn't dip or quarantine. What dip do you recommend for any future coral purchases?

I don't recommend any specific dip, I find that they all seem to work fairly well.
Do a search for Tropic marine pro coral cure (TMPCC), Coral Dip RX, and Revive coral cleaner and see what people recommend.

Undatas generally do like lower light, and in fact, exhibit photoinhibition over 200 PAR. Due a google search for the following -- site:advancedaquarist.com undata

You'll find an Advanced Aquarist article with all you ever wanted to know and more about the lighting required for an Undata.

mcliffy2, Gorgeous M. undata in your avatar :D. Good advice here and to the poster, nice frag you got :).
