So when I got my remora and installed it i didn't think much of it..noticed it about ago and just thought it was fine..is it even rust..read and heard alot of bad stories about stuff rusting in tanks..so I kinda want to react to this sooner than later..what do you guys use that's safe..do they make plastic ones? Fyi it's on my remora protein skimmer..

Could I use a zip tie or two? Don't know if that will hold or do..I wonder what everyone else is using..kinda confused..but have a feeling I need to do something asap..don't know why the previous owner used that when he knew it would rust

That's why I second the zip ties because of it cutting the hose.thanks for the link..Could I purchase them somewhere locally(home depot or lowes) would be nice..I hope I can get it out out with no problem...I hope I can find plastic hose clamps if not I will go with the zip ties..

my pump came with little plastic hose clamps like this http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_viewitem.aspx?idproduct=FT1513&child=FT1513&utm_source=adwordsfroogle&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=adwordsfroogle&utm_content=FT1513&gclid=CPq69rDnhcUCFerm7AodIxMAFg
but i dont see why zip ties wouldn't work, as long as they werent so tight they cut into the hose.
ive got a few hose clamps on my set up but i would never put them under water. yours looks like the screw is going

Those are the exact ones my recent remora came with. I'd take the skimmer off line for a few days and order those, doubt you could find them locally.

Ok so I'm.guessing yes they will fit a remora..Ok so now I'm.on the hunt..don't really wanna go the hassle and order on line just not my thing..got my fingers crossed going I can find locally

don't know why the previous owner used that when he knew it would rust

the previous owner is an idiot !

you need to get that out of the system asap....zip ties will work but no matter how tight you make them the salt water expands them over time and they don't stay real tight. If you want to do it right, get those plastic clamps....but for now, zip ties will do....

Thanks everyone for the advice and tips...was going to wait to post but now glad I did..got off from work tommoro so will do my best. I'll be looking around at some lfs and hardware stores hoping to get lucky if not the zip ties will have to do..I agree it's got to go asap..

Have a ca,mg, and alk test kit would any of these param be of because of it..or does rust just sneek up and take you out

Nylon Hose clamps are best. Zip ties will work
I looked all over to source the clamps locally. No luck at the big boxes.
Just get them online it will save you time and aggravation.

it wont effect those parameters....

problem with rust is you don't know exactly what type of metal is oxidizing...if there is any zinc getting in the tank......that could be a big problem.....metal in tank is a no no (except titanium or good quality stainless)

I think polyp pads will remove some, and they change color to tell you if they did. But I havent personally used. Also my bottle of prime says it "detoxifies heavy metals" idk if that would help in this sitch the same way it does with it getting in the water from metal pipes and stuff.

Ok will do research on polyp pads and see...so finally got a hold of some zip ties just don't know which one would be best can also get different ones if you guys think these are no goods ....have about 10 of each...so should I take some water out or remove it submerged, can't access to any saltwater till tommoro so if I have to take some out will have to be tommorow....thanks again everyone

zip ties will work just as well under water. If you can reach your hands in there, it should be a very easy job.

Yea looked up polyp pads and nothing in aquariums then realized you had misspelled lol ..my concern is is it ok to unscrew it underwater will it release rust then or should I just take some water out like I were to do a water change and then take it out?..your right it should be easy ( I hope) right beneath the water line..oh yea which size of the two should I go with
