I have a 6 1/2" male peacock in a 24G aquapod. Ive had him for almost two months and the last couple of weeks hes not been as personable. But when i feed him, he comes out and destroys his live food, then goes back to hiding. The water quality is good and stable. Not only was he a pricey pet, but hes a member of the family, so i dont want anything to happen to him. Any ideas of what i could do?

is he eating his food or just killing it? It may be readying itself for a molt. It may become extremely territorial against EVERYTHING(some mantises will do this, but most won't), will stop eating, and will work on contruction and then disappear for a while. Don't go poking around at that time, or you could kill it. Just leave the tank and don't do anything, not even water changes unless its an emergency. You could also take care of corals if they aren't on any big/important rocks (important to the mantis burrow wise).
