should I get a skimmer?

I have had and ran a 20g long for almost 2 years, with nothing more then 25 percent weekly water changes, a CPR HOB aquafuge with some miracle mud, some marinepure balls, and chaeto, and an aquaclear 70 with a poly filter pad, chemipure blue, and some filter floss. I have since upgraded to a 40 gallon breeder sumpless , so was going to get a Tunze 9004 DOC DC skimmer for inside the tank. I rather go in tank then HOB in case of foam overflow incident, don't want to ruin the carpet etc. here's a link of the item I am thinking of getting.

my plan is keep the aquaclear to run just my carbon, and possibly a poly filterpad, and of course keeping the HOB refugium running with my chaeto. I do a weekly 5 gallon water change, but on the 20 gallon long it was a 25 percent WC, being that I am changing the same amount in a 40 gallon it is now only a 12.5 percent WC weekly. I only have 2 fish ATM, 6 hermits, 2 fighting conchs, and about 10 pieces of coral, so does it sound like my sytem would greatly benefit from a skimmer, or should I save the money for something else?

I just run a poly filter in a HOB filter along with carbon. Tanks doing great but I'm pretty religious about water changes. 40 breeder.

Spend the money on an MP10 instead!

Or

a proper sump and overflow setup, then you can use a real skimmer! and, dump all that hang on back nonsense! Good luck!

The 9004 controllable is perfect for the 40 Breader
add 2 nano tunze controllable 6040 1 on each side with the hob filter in center and your good to go

I have a MP10QD and a jebao pp4 wavemaker, both I might be selling, because I ordered and am awaiting a gyre 130 in the mail, and yes skimmer in tank, because as I said I am running sumpless, and I don't want to run the risk of a flood using a HOB skimmer due to over foaming.

well got the Tunze 9004 comline DC model, it has been in my tank for 2 days still dialing it in, but so far pulling alot of dark skimmate already, and it was alot smaller then I thought it would be in my tank, so far am very impressed.

Here is a tank I maintain. No sump, 90 gal cube. Only using Tunze internal skimmer & filter

I second that! I was using a HOB skimmer for about 4 months until I realized that I could get a sump for a somewhat inexpensive price and now I don't know how I went without my sump/refugium. It makes a world of difference even on my 40 breeder.

Tunze Comline equipment is an excellent alternative to sumps. In most cases it takes up less space than an overflow, there is zero flood risk, and since it is directly in the aquarium there are no losses.
