Should I Get Fish?

My 40g tank has been up for about 4 1/2 weeks now, It cycled with cured live rock in about half a week. Then about 1 1/2 weeks ago I got some hermit crabs, and about 1/2 a week ago I got some trochus snails for it. I am now wondering if I could get a pair of clowns this weekend? I have had 0 ammonia, nitrates and nitrites since the first week, my ph is a constant 8.1 my alk is a constant 3.5 meq/l, and my salinity is constant at 1.025. I also am just finishing up my diatom bloom, and i have a tunze 9004 skimmer and a IM media reactor with gfo. Any advice would be welcomed.

I am a newbie as well on here but it sounds like your good to go as long as your Ammonia, Nitrites are 0 and you have low amounts of nitrate. I would get a pair of clowns but introduce anything after the clowns slowly.

You can add fish, but depending on what else you want, I would consider adding the clowns last unless they are super small and young. A female clown will bully new fish.
Mine killed what was supposed to be my last fish and nearly killed its replacement (a damsel). This was in a 4-foot long 33 gallon.

Good luck.

I agree that you should get fish.

Give us a potential stocklist and we'll help you with the details and the order.

I was thinking, a pair of clowns and a dwarf angel such as a flame angel, then maybe a goby or green/blue cromis? I really want the dwarf angel and the clowns but the rest is undecided, any ideas would be welcomed.

In general, use the dkh scale for alk. More people understand that number. To convert, multiply by 2.8.

Your good to go, clowns are fine, great hardy fish and a wonderful place to start.
Have fun.

Watch them very carefully for the few few weeks and make sure they eat well.
Beautiful fish....enjoy....

Gobies and Cromis are good ideas, Cromis in schools of 3-5 is OK....they are quite fast and usually spend the day.....up and down the tank in the front.

Yup, not a fan of the flame angel......looks great but can be problematic.
Especially when you are introducing two expensive clowns.

You may have also considered a BTA as a potential host, pink, red, green, once they take to it they will sleep in it.....

My Dwarf Flameback is a workaholic and goes at mach speed all day. I really like him despite the fact that he ate one acro and a gorgonian. Last week I got a pair of Sleeper Gobys and he has been hunting them 24/7 and has killed one.

Luckily my flame is incredibly well behaved along with his friend the Eibel's Angel (which are both in a reef). Probably helps that it is a 200g tank. :spin1:
