Should I try a Clam and/or Anemone?

My tank is about 7 months old now and everything has been going great in it! I got a great deal on an Aquaspacelight on eBay so I now have 2x250 HQI MH bulbs with a couple Actinic. My params have been remarkably stable, showing no nitrate, nitrite, or ammonia.

Everything in my tank so far has been thriving greatly, and I'd love to try getting a clam and/or an anemone. Let me know what you think!

should have enough lighting for both. a clam IMO would be the easier of the 2. Make sure it is one of the larger ones 3-4+ inches. any smaller and you'll need to feed it phyto. And their survivability is much lower. What kind of clam have you checked out?

I was looking at a Crocea on clamdirect.com. Feeding Phytoplankton won't be a problem because I already dose pretty heavily for my small polyped branching goniopora.

I have a maxima and a little giant. Both are great. they move around some, but not a lot. I put them on top of a piece of flat rubble rock down in the subtrate. their "foot" attaches to this and they do not move around as much, plus it keeps stuff from boring up through them and killing them. I think they move less and are less maintenance than an anemone. At least that is what i have been told.

I'd say go for it I have heard good things about clams direct. no personal exerience though. the croceas on their site are nice ones.

Yeah from what I've heard is that anemones, even the BTA, can be pretty delicate/fragile when it comes to a lot of things, and I'm afraid of shelling out $$$ when I'm still unsure if it'll do well. I think the clam would be a good choice also.

The thing that was swaying me towards an anemone, is this baby hehehehe It's purdy

I have a 6" crocea clam under t5's, and the big guy is certainly growing, as I see shell growth. He opens up really big, and when they are larger, easier to maintain. The smaller ones do have to be target fed with phyto, so get a larger one IMHO..... I like anemones, but won't dare add another one to my tank, they can be kinda finicky at times, and are not all that great with sps corals, which I have.....my opinion.....good luck....

Clams direct is a great place. Customer service and Tech support is A+. I've bought from them 3 times.

I added a BTA into my reef tank and it moved over and stung my birds nest coral. .... RTN !

I still have it in my tank but, it is a gamble where it wants to move to. I try to feed it and keep it happy in that one spot.

Yeah, I think I've decided to go with a clam. I've already got a nice flat piece of live rock picked out for when I go to order one to give it somewhere to attach to.

I've been doing lots of reading, and I'm confident that one will do well in my tank. The only stony corals in my tank right now are LPS, so there isn't much to soak up my calcium levels. I use Reef Crystals and do a 10-20% water change each week, so hopefully calcium won't be a problem, but dosing isn't that hard to do anyways.

Other than that, I've got good lighting, my LPS and mushrooms have been thriving. Overall I've been pretty pleased with the way my tank has gone
