Should I worry yet

New addition, C. Batyphilus, Hooded fairy wrasse, arrived today. During one hour drip acclimation, he just lay in the bottom of the bucket. Now in QT, just laying in corner bottom of tank. Breathing seems slow and steady, not rapid or labored.

Just weird wrasse behavior or something more worrisome?

Does your QT have a sand bed or any other structure to hide by/in. Hooded wrasse in my opinion are very shy and can/take awhile to acclimate.

So I wouldn't be to worried. What is the response to food?

Just arrived today, so no feeding yet. Sand bed and PVC tube. We will know more in the morning I guess.

It is a natural behavior of Wrasses to lay on the bottom of the shipping container, acclimation container, QT until lights go out and they can bury themselves, and the same for the DT....observe for now, keep an eye on it's breathing and color.....that's about all you can do now.

My Hooded Fairy Wrasse, purchased from Diver's Den, was extremely shy at the beginning. It took him a little while before settling in the qt tank. Now, he is always out in the open in the display tank. One of my favorite wrasses. Like you, I was concerned at the beginning, but they are known for this behavior initially. Best of luck!!!

A 1 hour drip acclimation, especially to go into QT , is IMO too long! If you properly match temp and salinity of QT to shipping water, then 15-20 min acclimation should be fine!
Also when I have wrasses in a bucket to acclimate, I do put some PVC pieces in the bucket for them.

where did it come from

Actually, C. Batyphilus, and all fairy and flasher wrasses create a mucous cocoon rather than burying in the sand. To the OP, did you measure transport SG and QT SG? If it came from DD, transport SG is probably 1.024 but from LA, 1.019.

most wrasses in my opinion always hid and stayed at the bottom during the first week of adding especially if there are other wrasses in the tank
