should you q-tine corals, critters, and LR

Hi guys,

Should you q-tine EVERYTHING that goes into your display tank? If so, how does this work.

Assuming your display is "sterile" in terms of harmful parasites, then I understand the point of q-tine for all fish. Isolate and use hypo for 6 weeks, that way no parasites can be in the animal, and it is safe to transfer it to the display without introducing parsites - active, latent, or otherwise.

But how does this work with clean up crew, LR, or corals for example? Since you cannot hypo these in a q-tine tank? I am assuming that if you put such items in a 'fish-less' environment, then without a host, they will die?

So, does that lead on to say that I should set up my tank, and ideally include all the LR that I will ever use, and start the refugium at the same time, and introduce a full clean up crew, along with ornamental shrimps and stars and so on. Then let it for 6 weeks to starve out any potential parasites. And from then on, anything that goes in - including corals, need to q-tined for a minimum of 6 weeks, and any fish min 6 weeks with hypo.

Am I on the right track here? It is just I never hear people saying "I have a nice coral in q-tine waiting to be introduced".......

Thanks,

Matt
