show me your CUBE!!!

Hey there...just stumbled on this thread and thought I'd add to it a bit. Here's a few of my work in progress. Its never quite how I want it...but I guess thats either just me...or part of the hobby ;)

135gal 3x3x2' w/ 29gal aquarium acting as a sump. I'm running 4x36'' VHO's with a single 150w Ushio 10k halide in the center. I also have a single slimpaq 39w actinic for 'sunrise sunset.' Just upgraded from a classic red sea berlin skimmer which did hardly anything for me, to an I-Tech 200 or 'medium'...what a difference! I just have to wait for it to pull all the built up crud out of my water now. Hopefully it clears up my water a bit over the next few weeks. Already it pulls more in a day than the old red sea did in 2 weeks...so I have high hopes. Anyway...let me know what you fellow 'cube' enthusiasts think!

Please excuse the cyno...it came up all the sudden and was the reason behind my hunt for a new skimmer since I have plenty of flow in those areas...it has actually disapated by about half in the week I've had the skimmer so...I'm working on it :)

Heres a pic of the I-Tech 200 right after I plugged it in for the first time.

i am currently planning a 45 gallon cube (24 x 24 x 18).. so i've been reading these threads for ideas.. i'm noticing a lot of people have very little live rock in their cubes. I've always used the rule of 1.5x-2x per gallon of live rock (i have a 120 gallon right now). i'm wondering how much long term sucess everyone is having with 45-60 gallon tanks using minimal live rock... and is there any kind of additives being used to supplement for less rock?

90 gallon marineland tank

90 gallon marineland tank

I have the marineland/perfecto cube its 30"x30"x25". its a great tank, but I am having a hard time finding a lighht for it. Ideally i want t5's that will sit on the tank, but i cannot find anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I do not want to be limited in what i can keep. If there are no options, what is the best way to light this tank? Thanks

I would suggest looking at 250 watt 24 inch MH units. Current USA appears to be shutting down a significant portion of their business, (according to internet rumors) so you may be able to get some good deals on their products, just be wary of getting replacement parts...

140G Cube

140G Cube

Here is my 36"x36"x25" cube built by Deep Sea Aquatics. It is going to be a in wall tank. I had DSA put a vinyl coating on three sides of tank to block the "fish room" view. This tank has been a long process and has been sitting in my garage since this spring, but since it is getting cold I now have time to finish this!

The basics, lighting will be half 250W MH/PC combo & a 6 bulb T-5 fixture, skimmer: I-tech, water movement: Sea Swirl on return pump & Vortech MP40W, Filtration:Remote DSB & BRS dual reactor, Supplements: BRS Two part on timed Peristaltic pumps. I just got the breakers and outlets put in tonight so I need to finish plumbing, and rolling/hanging light rack. Enjoy!

Wow nice tank!

I've been out of the hobby for a while. Thinking about starting up a new tank...maybe a cube. Do you have a build thread?

I'd consider expanding the teeth on the overflow. No offense to DeepSea, they have great skill at building tanks... but lack in some serious design areas. They built a 1000g+ tank locally with an overflow capable of handling about 300g/h. It could be an illusion based on the size of the tank, but it does look to be a little restrictive depending on how much turnover you're shooting for. What size holes for bulkheads did they drill?

Did they get you a starfire front? Looks good!

RokleM,

I may do that if I have flow problems but I don't think it will be an issue with the amount of water I plan on flowing through the pump. I will probably only be bringing about 700 gallons/per hour through the sump. There are two 1" bulkheads but I will be only using one since the other is just an emergency overflow (using the Herbie method). Did not go with starfire, but I probably should have...

Hey guys & gals everything looks awesome on here. My question is i'm looking at getting a 24x24x20high three sided starfire with an external overflow and 1return locline nozzle coming in from the back corner. Thinking of using black silicone. Anyone have any suggestions that they would like to change in there cube so i don't do the same thing maybe.
