Seems to be an ok grower for me, a bit on the slow side. If I could keep my clumsy hands from snapping the tip off maybe I could get this thing to look a little better. You can see one of my mini tip frags to the left of the main frag in the updated shot. I've broken the tip 3 times already and each frag "tip" has done well. It has awesome color and I'm definitely looking forward to it growing out. Seems to be a tough piece so far.

Aww, one of my favorites, to bad their so expensive. How much did you guys pay for yours?

I got hooked up royally at my LFS who takes care of me :-). I traded in a bunch of zoanthids, a few heads of frogspawn, and an orange florida ricordea for the dustin's deepwater, hawkin's "echinita" turaki, and the phil's granulosa :smokin: They sell all the new ORA limited release corals for $69.99.

Very sensitive coral in my opinion. I've lost two already for no apparent reason. :(
ditto

$ 45 at my LFS

mine browned out :(, lost some of it due to base recession, and currently it looks like crap :(. I have hope it will shift back to that pretty green color.

Mine browned out for a bit, but the green base color and bright blue on the axial growth have returned over the last couple weeks. I'm in the same boat as myzislow though, I have repeatedly bumped into it and snapped the tip off (3+ times :o ), so I don't have much growth to show over the last few months.

Kohen's or the Hawkin's?

either or/both I'm going to the LFS tonight and they have both, but if im going to spend 65 on a frag i want a fairly hardy one at least not one that has inexplicably died in established healthy tanks.

they have the dustins too but im going to steer clear until my tank is more mature.

I don't have the Kohen's (yet :D ), but my Hawkin's has been doing excellent, great color and growing well. It's my favorite coral at the moment.

I got two a while ago and have been doing awesome. On one i also keep on breaking the tip off lol.Cant wait till it starts to take off.

I have the hawkins as well and in my experience it is a very hardy coral that grows fairly fast. I received the dustins, hawkins, and phils on the same day and the hawkins is my favorite out of the 3 by far, and it has done the best for me as well. Don't mean to hijack- but here are some shots from the day I got it and my most recent:

About 2 months in between shots.

Glad I'mnot the only reefer with clumsy hands

OK im going to pick up a frag of hawkins tonight if they still have one.

that last picture sold me, very nice.

Bumping an old thread. This coral has been out for awhile now, and while I know many people have struggled with it, there has got to be some that have made it.

Mine has gone from this, feb 2008:

As you can see it's defnitely a slow grower. Post yours if you have one!

Edit- I just realized I posted in this thread when it was first started. Crazy to see how much the sand dollar has grown.
