Thanks again for the input. I'm debating picking up a nicer circular saw and buying/building a guide for it rather than buying a cheaper table saw. Still uncertain. (I love the idea of a TrackSaw system, but not for that $$). Maybe even a cheap band saw from harbor freight/sears if the budget isn't too stretched.
Again, that is what I would suggest. Especially if you're not sure you will continue with woodworking. A simple guide can be made with 1/8" hardboard.
1. Rip a 3-4" wide strip of hardboard by hand with no guide.
2. Rip another piece 10-12" wide.
3. Glue and staple the thin strip onto the thicker strip with the clean edge of the hard board facing the middle.
4. Using the now straight edge as a guide, cut the excess off. (hope that all made sense)
I've made several of these in 8', 4', and 1'. Simple and effective.
