Show Me Your Large Peninsula Tank

We're building a 700g reef tank for our church/childcare. I was going to do an "L" shape in the wall, but I'm having new thoughts about doing a peninsula tank so that more people could view it.

I would LOVE to see any pics of large peninsula tanks and as I am still fairly new, I would really appreciated any comments on such.

Well, on the good side, I guess our systems will be somewhat unique.

EVO.. do you ever attend FRAG meetings?

Take a look, is not that large (225 gal) but might give you an idea.
The best comment I can make is that because it is going to have a two side viewing wider is better. For a sixe of tank you are planning I would do 33" side to side minimum, that will give enough space between the rock and side panels for swiming and coral growth.

two sided viewablt tank.. 36 inchs.. i got one orderd i had a 180 but the 24 wide just sucked.. could not do anything. rock was straight up and down. no place for clorals to grow. hard to clean.. had to upgrade to a 292 72x36x26.. when i get it up i will get pictures...

71gp...ThANKS! this is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Does the 26" work well for you in cleaning and maintaining?

Also, what do you have in your tank to provide adequate circulation.

I'm trying to figure out how to build it without putting lots of plumbing at the viewing end of the tank. Any feedback will be very helpful. Thanks

thanks.. i like the 26 gives you like 24 viewable just looka little better to me.. here is my plan as of now for the flow... might change but this is how it sits at the moment..

i dont know if i am going to like seeing the 4 eductors on the one side of the tank.. i might move them to the overflow side.. along with the powerheads... the modded 802's like the maxi mod each do about 3000 gph.. so thats a bit there.. and the sequence 4200 on the 4 way keeping the BB clean.. i dotn think the eductors will look too bad but we will see when i get it and start plumbing

the 4 on the one side would sure give life to the tank, and for those of us who enjoy the mechanics of how a tank works, this would be a sight to behold, but I wonder if it would become a distraction. Still, I don't know if there is a way around it.

I would be interested to follow your progress. Will you be opening a thread? If so, I would like to link into it. I have one going

But I'm very much still in the conceptual mode. A few thoughts I am feeling more firm on at this point are:

1. Deltec self-cleaning skimmer, pricely..but I think the skimmer is absolutely essential to long term stability and I will splurge here.

2. a thin sand bed in the tank with a large DSB in the sump, so I can isolate it if needed, and I lessen the chance of running into a mysterious dreaded DSB doomsday.

3. Peninsula style tank if I can plan it in a practical manner.

i plan on doing a thread.. i will start it when the tank shows.. i didnt see a point in starting one now... maybe i should though...

Feed them often, keep them healthy--through quarentine and analysis, and keep the water quality perfect... I have noticed that SH need perfect water paramiters to do well. When its not perfect, they get sick, and thats really not good.

Keep pasive fish like pipes, and plumb there tank to the rest of your system and youll be good :)

Ask more questions, I'll try to help to the best of my abilies
