Show me your LPS dominated reeftanks!

those reports are not accurate----torch and or hammer will sting anything they can get near enough to.

notice the lower edge of the green pagoda coral---the torch has been working on that edge------before I directed the flow at it from the left so it couldn't touch.
The zoos on the left are being stung by the hammer below.

I'm with the Capn on this one. In the middle of this pic you can see the torch under the xenia. Since this picture was taken the Xenia has moved all the way to the tip of the rock to avoid being stung.
On the left you can see muy anchor and some blue shrooms next to it. Although it doesn't look like it, they are about 6 inches apart and the srhooms still get stung once in a while.

The anchor and torch are my most aggresive corals to date. The only other thing that's doing a lot of stinging in my tank is the apstia infestation I've been working on.

what are you doing to fight it?
 
Yeah, the torch is a beautiful white torch. I couldn't pass it up at the lfs. I've got it in a high flow spot with flow coming from various directions, so its pretty happy :).

In so far as the apstia, I've been reading numerous threads on it and I prefer a natural solution to chemicals (peppermint shrimp maybe). Otherwise I think I'm going to buy a syringe and some Joe's juice and just start hitting them up one by one. Yesterday they did a number on my red mushrooms and it pretty much pushed me over the edge. :mad:

I've heard also that Joe's juice is great--and also good a getting rid of aptasia.:lol:

I toyed with cyano for a long time--trying all non chemical methods--then when it decided to advance up the rock towards my coral----I used red slime remover
It did the job nicely with no problems.
 
I'm having a small cyano problem now as well.
What happened after using the chemicals? I would imagine that since the conditions were good for cyano before the chemical treatment, they would be good after as well:confused: Did the lps have any adverse effects from the chemicals?
 
I wouldnt say this refutes the known aggression of lps , but I have a torch and hammer colony fairly close together (definately within stinging range) that dont appear to cause each other ill harm(over the last year). I wonder if being fairly similar species they dont fight each other to the extent they do other corals? Or it may just be an oddity in my tank (if i see them fight I threaten to turn the car around and go home).
 
well, in my tank they are pretty close together (obviously from the picture above) but i've just read reports on the forums that the euphyllia sometimes play nice with each other. thats just anecdotal but they are fine right now and i have my fingers crossed, the candy cane coral next to the hammer is going to have to get moved soon though.

its the nature of the hobby--every tank is different and the conditions maintained within it are unique.
You really have to try it out and watch the other corals carefully. The benifits of the anecdotal comments in many cases are that they can at least give you a "heads up" so as to be wary.;)
 
Hey thats a great looking tank! The lightning and coloration of the corals are really nice. What lightning do you use?

I'm using (2) 14K Phoenix Bulbs 150W in a 36" Corallife Aqualight Advance. I use to have XM 20K but I really like the Phoenix Bulbs, really brightens the tank up much more.

i have a very similar set up but because of the 2 attinics I went with 10,000k bulbs instead of the 14,000.

I have a prop tank with a 250W HQI and started with a 10K with atinics, but the color was still not enough for me. I switched to a 250W Phoenix and the colors are awesome. I don't think I can go back to 10K. I must admit with the 10K I got a lot of growth, but the color was not enough for me. I don't have any atinic sup. on my display tank but I have a friend who does and runs a 150w Phoenix bulb, and it looks great. Atinics with the Phoenix bulb really makes the colors pop.
 
250 watts would have been my choice--at the time of purchase I was greener then chaeto and the guys that sold me the system said I couldn't run them because of heat problems(they were in a coral life fixture under a wooden canopy.
Little did I know that eventually I would run the sump,refug and ballasts from the basement.
Kind of hard to change now--due to cost--besides I don't think I will ever have in LPS--not after what I have seen here at what you can aim for. :)
 
Looks really nice vvolfe, the red favia? looks fantastic, any close ups of it?

And do try to take an up to date pic would love to see more pics of your tank.
