Show OFF Unusual BTA Color Variations

For what it's worth, when we were in Fiji, we saw a zooanthellae-less BTA in a very shallow, high light area in a field of clones. The anemone was smaller and had shorter tentacles than the clones around it, but it was reactive, sticky and had a tight mouth. It was completely lacking zooanthellae and was clear enough to see that there wasn't a hint of brown.

It is out of focus in the foreground of this pic (click to bigify)

and another here (I don't recall there being two different ones, but it may be a faulty memory since this looks like a different anemone.)

Nice ones, Charlie! Tell me more about your Pink ones-- did you get them that way or did they bleach to pink?

I actually spoke to the owner of the store where I got mine from. He said that the BTAs he gets range from the normal green, to dark maroon, to orange, red and pink. He said the pink ones come in pink and he has seen them shift color to a bright red, but it takes a long time and always look different than the other rose anemones. He said they stay pink under PCs and MH, so lighting doesn't seem to be the root issue.

So I guess the answer lies somwhere in the middle, the Pink ones come from a distinct parent that has some sort of genetic issue that gives it's clones a particular pigmentation weakness that gives them a tendency to turn pink. Interesting.

I did get it that way, I started w/ one about 3.5 yrs ago and have had up to 6 at a time. They have gone from the pink to a dark rose color (pics in my gall) back to the pink. Not sure what or where they are from but i have a pic in one of my books that shows a hot pink just like ours in the wild. Personaly thats how i like them as long as they eat then all is well!

yeah, I'm loving my pink one, too. Bleached or not, seems happy and eats like a horse.
Charlie, noticed you are from Greeley. That's where my pinky came from...is there something in the water, there? hehe...

Anyway, nice pics everyone, keep 'em coming!

New GBTAs, this is the smaller one (Dinner Plate Size). And the BIG one is hiding behind the rocks to the left (Frisbe size). They are a little bleach, pics do no justice but will have them back to prime in no time at all.
