Show us your sumps/fishrooms

That is my 'fuge, fed by a small pump from the sump and overflowing back into the sump. It has it's own light, which will run in an opposite day/night schedule from the DT

Heliman, I love the electrical cabinet!

Are you going to run Ozone? Also I see your using the Genesis system. Will you set it up for automatic water change or just top off?

My fish room is still a work in progress.

Just about got to the freshwater leak test stage.

Next will be final connection of all the peripheral gear and the tydying up of all the wiring. Wiring will run in conduits and be hidden. The whole room has been lined with 1 " polystyrene foam, painted to match the existing room walls. The tank looks out through the wall onto my games room.

DT back and sides have a polystyrene cover (painted blue) and attached with magnetic strip, for ease of removal when servicing.

1000 litres of external water storage are outside, next to the fish room and pumped in on demand.

X-Wave circulation units need some work, they are a bit noisy and I will open them up and give them a "quiet" treatment. The problem is a poor location method for the drive moter and this needs some work.

Skimmer is a BK Supermarin 200 and the return pump is the RE RD3 Speedy controllable unit....magnificent machine !!!!! totally silent and very powerful.

This will be a great build I'm interested in following, Please supply a link to the build thread. I'm using Vanotek abyzz and blue eco pumps
Cheers
Rob

Yep...I will run low dose Ozone 24/7. I have used 03 for many years, I dont think it does much good for sterilisation but I am personally convinced at low dose it breaks up some larger proteins so that they skim out better, hence clearer water. I have Orp probes at the outlet to the skimmer and also to the sump, I aim for an Orp differential no greater than 20 to 30.

Genesis will run both top-off and auto water changes. It is a remarkable piece of equipment and I had to set up part of my electrical system at 120 volts so that I could use it. Everything else is at 240 Volts (our local voltage)

Padrino

I dont have a build thread, I have been a bit cautious about posting because each time I make a point, somebody leaps in and slams me....I have only kept Marines for 48 years, so I guess I dont yet count as experienced enough to get listened to:sad2: and it is my hobby which I love...not a battlefield. Paul is about the only one who listens to me...we are both Geezers :fun2:

But I am so happy with how my new build is turning out that I just had to share it !!!! I am coming up for retirement soon and I have a new home that had a fish room in it at the design stage....promised myself that this would be my retirement present ....having heaps of fun getting it all together. Every thing I have hankered to try over the past 40 odd years will be incorporated in the final product.

I just recently got nearly 6 Kilowatts of solar panels put on my roof, and my power bill is always in fat credit, so I can be a bit relaxed over power usage now....makes life easier !

I think you should start one today as i and im sure many others would love to follow this progress. Check out my build thread as well as you will find a lot of similar attributes. Its called padrinos 220 upgrade in the large tank forum. Its a 200 gal display in mkitchen with the rest of the system downstairs making a total volume of about 450. If you can't find it. Let me know and i will post a link.

Heliman, I'd also love to see you start a build thread if you find the time. There is simply no substitute for experience, would love to hear more from you.

Just about complete now with the new build.

As a principle, I wanted a parallel sump for two main reasons.....

* To help my back after umpteen years of bent double, grovelling in a sump on the floor, and wrestling with too much equipment in too small a space !!

* To get a full flow without any air entraped in the transferred water...thus totally silent, the water in my set-up does not need to "fall", taking air with it and producing noise.

The dangers of a parallel sump are that you must do the math to make sure you are covered for power outs and that your sump height/capacity can cope with the maximum drain volume from the DT when pump stops.

To minimise drain down volume, I used a weir that goes from front to back across the whole DT and in this weir is a standpipe that defines the minimum drain volume. The DT will only drain down to the level that the syphon in the returns breaks ( the returns are 2 Vertex Mocean units)

Other than that, it is all quite conventional...... I have a big RD3 DC Pump that drives the whole system...DT, 2 reactors and 'fuge.

Circulation is boosted by 2 MP 40's, and 4 Koralia nano's on a Red Sea wavemaker

Lighting is by Vertex Illumina, ATO by Genesis, modified to operate direct from my RO/DI unit instead of from a pump and a reservoir.

I was inspired by Drummereefs set-up to make a serious effort to keep everything crisp and tidy and well laid out...it makes such a difference when not fighting through the spaghetti tangles of poewr cords etc !!!!

Some photos for info.

Tons of nice work on these pages! Love it.
These are some of my old projects. :hammer:
500g tank system
4 x 4 x 8' sump room under the staircase landing. Waterproofed, floor drain, ventilated, etc. Tight fit! 120g sump, 80g waterchange tank, di storage, reeflo skimmer, PM Ca reactor, Hammerhead pumps for return and CL.

Can you find the jets in my rockwork tower bases?:)

Here are the bases for the rockwork jets. Made from pvc, coated in aragocrete and painted with fake coralline.

Here is how I did the closed loop. Overflow was divided in 2 chambers, 1 for CL and 1 for OF. Worked great in a small space. You can see both surface and subsurface slots.

H20ENG,

Great pics. Can you tell us what setups are in your old pictures? Looks interesting, more info would be greatly appreciated.

Fantastic thread! I drool each time I check it for inspiration.

H20ENG

What type of paint do you use for coralline?
