Uh oh... that's ten... should I show more of the fish? The part I'm showing is the distinguishing characteristic...
 
Yes... how'd you pull that? Has anyone else seen one of these? This one I have is the only one I've seen... along with my buddy in Hawaii who brings in Christmas Island things by the crate load...

Sheer luck. :p Seriously though, the snout. Once I saw the bottom and that it was more tube-shaped than any other Bodianus species. That and Randall's picture of the preserved specimen confirmed what I remember about the snout.
 
Now up, a fish I'd love to get my hands on. :)

It's shape looks like it might belong to the genus Suezichthys, but the color isn't like any I know of. At least the range would fit.

So - I'll just guess that its a young (or female?) Suezichthys aylingi
