Show Your Skills on ID

Actually a great idea. Something new that has yet to be tried in these forums. Could have different levels of expertise. T

Shameless Bump!

You are correct. To my knowledge there is no sp. name yet. Hoping you or possibly coralite knew something I didn't. Your up if your still down!!! T

I'm still down, just hopefully people who get it right will post a pic.

Anyways, here is a little guy:

Little fun fact about it too:
It prefers to feed exclusively on a single species of coral (I will give that when the right guess is made), one of my favorites.

Well, no guesses, but I'm going to be gone for a few days and probably without a computer, I'll be back Friday, if your patient, but I'm not so someone else feel free to post a new pic and I'll get to guesses when I'm back.

I know it, so if someone guesses correctly, I can confirm to keep this moving along. :)

Glad to to see the thread still going. If this one has not yet been ID's it is indeed a little guy. A juvenile Chaetodon trifascialis. It is known to feed predominately on Acropora hyacinthus.

Man I scoured so much literature to try and figure out what butterfly that was. My fiance always knew I was a geek, but then watching me get frustrated trying to figure out this fish was a whole new level. She said, "is everything okay?" No I can't figure out what fish this is! "Can I help?" Yes do you know of a obligate Chaetodon that's main diet is of one species small polyp corals? She laughed uncontrollably and rightfully so!! T

Haha, that's cool to know how much effort you put into it. I can't say I haven't done it before. Practical fishkeeping wrote an article on it, and another butterfly that I don't recall. The other butterfly was not negatively or positively affected when fed other corals, though Chaetodon trifascialis was. When I said it was one of my favorites, I was referring to the coral though, I'm a sucker for those tables.

Someone just offered mr a nice 70 gallon corner display with everything. Has halides and t-5's. Has a couple of Monti's and acros. Some Duncans and zoos. It is so nice of him to offer me the display but I am petrified to start keeping corals again. I get nuts with spending money on corals when I keep a reef. I may get the tank and give the corals away and do a tank with a deep sand bed and keep the two species of garden eels that are usually available and some small jawfish, pipefish, and other funky fish. T
