They will steal the food from the very mouth of an anemone if given the chance. I think many people who own anemones often discourage people getting Peppermints and Cleaner Shrimp and the like.
I have no first hand experience with this, however. This is just something I remember reading.
I have 3 Cleaners and 2 Peps. I never have those problems. I have a Carpet and a GBTA. If you feed the shrimp first the nems have time to eat. A healthy anemone should consume a piece of krill before a shrimp can get it out. Depending on the size of the nem it can easily eat the shrimp if it gets to close.
Back when I had my green carpet in my 90(whichh took up 1/3 of my tank), my skunk cleaner shrimp used to touch it, it would put its antena's and sometimes even it's legs into the anenome. The anenome didn't do anything so I do not think that they will kill a shrimp by stining it.
My shrimp tries.. The word tries to steal the food from the anemone but I usually chop up some mysis and squirt it in the are of where the shrimp hang out then direct feed the anemone so the shrimp dont caus ethe anemone any grief while it eats.
