Shrimp Cycle Stink. Can I remove and ghost feed now?

I put a dead shrimp in my 100% Dry rock 100% live sand from a bag tank. It has now stunk up my entire room and my wife is very upset. My ammonia is at 1 - 1.5 now and Nitrites are now elevating. My question is can I pull the shrimp and just ghost feed to keep the cycle going? I have 0 nitrate so far.

I've never used anything BUT ghostfeeding, ever. No need to smell up the house.

Oh yes, pull that rotting shrimp. You don't really need to ghost feed if you're seeing ammonia and nitrite.

Thank god! My first cycle with just dry rock so wasn't sure. Just checked and I am at 1ppm Ammonia 2ppm Nitrite and 5ppm Nitrate. So I am now seeing nitrate also. I believe I will pull it tonight or tomorrow unless someone suggests it will kill my cycle.

I just used ammonia too. One cube of food to give "something else" to the system but otherwise just straight up lab-grade ammonia is what I used. (Because I work in a chem lab.) Dr Tim has a good product that is really cheap for this purpose.

If you haven't yet, open a window and maybe get your skimmer going :)

Started to use a shrimp, but the smell was horrid. Took it out after a few days and just dosed pure ammonia and ghost fed a little until the tank cycled.
