Shrimp Cycling for a perm QT tank

So I'm setting up a permanent QT tank 29gal. I have one large shrimp in there for 4 days now. I'm running a HoB with nothing in it except the ceramic rings for bacteria growth and a large sponge filter(125gal size). My readings are pH - 8.2, Ammonia - 4+ but not at the 8, Nitrite - 0, Nitrate - 0. How long do I leave the shrimp in as a CuC wont be added to this tank. I haven't had a bacteria bloom yet and wondering when it will be safe to remove the shrimp? I have tried to find some answers some were when ammonia is 8, some said 4-5 days, some said when ammonia is 4 or when nitrites become present in the system. Once its cycled I have to get 4 fish out of my 75g main display and leave fallow for the next 3 months . Any suggestions would be appreciated as this is my first attempt with shrimp cycle.

P.S. The smell is rancid as hell and my Fiance is complaining although its mostly contained to my office room lol

It's time to pull it out. I don't even let it go as high as 4. I usually pull it out at 2.

I don't even understand the shrimp thing. So uncivilized lol ;p. I always use ammonium chloride. A few dollars bottle will last you many many many tanks.

I just dropped a shrimp in my tank as well. I did use the reef mature pro kit but it didn't get my ammonia levels up where they needed to be so hopefully this will do the trick

Obviously, they aren't using live shrimp. I can get 1 large shrimp for less than a dollar. :spin2: Oh and I have heard people peeing in their tank to cycle it. I'm not sure how I feel about it but it's free ammonia for sure. Back on topic you can remove it once you hit 2 on the ammonia and some people just leave it in till it is no more.

Along with the shrimp, I used some Seachem Stability to get some bacteria in there to eat up that ammonia.
