Shrimp hate my tank

Some one help! I cant keep shrimp alive. Ive tested every thing, and asked every one. What am I doing wrong? I have a 125 gallon reef tank. Its been running for over one year, most of which came from a 55 gallon i had set up for about a year.

i'd suggest buying a peppermint (losing $6 instead of $20) when u think things have settled. if its a new tank, give it time to stabilize. a tank thats been up for a month wont be stable. give it a month or two. at 6 months it will be considered fairly stable. 1 year is stable.

Are they just dying, or getting eaten? Hows your copper? And maybe run one of those pads that absorbs metals... my buddy was having the same problem and it worked for him. To this day we couldn't find the culprit, but at least he can keep shrimp now. also make sure you don't have any brass or copper fittings in any of your plumbing.

What type of shrimp are dying? Are you sure they are dying and not molting? What fish are in the tank? What inverts are in the tank? Do you witness them dying? How are you acclimating them? Have you purchased them all from the same place? What is your pH? What is your salinity? None of us can really help you unless you give us some more information.

125 gallon tank been runnin for over one year. they r dying not being eaten i found the last one in my brain coral i have tried peppermint and cleaner shrimp. i have never used copper in my tank but i will buy the test and check it my water tests perfect n has been for the entire time it has been runnin

Are you using water from the LFS or RO/DI at home? are you mixing it yourself? what brand salt and what salinity?

How do you normally acclimate them? Shrimp need slow, careful acclimation. They're sensitive to pH and salinity changes (among other parameters).

inverts seem to have a tuff time acclimating to a new tank. some die, some make it. its also because of the stress that they have already gone thru by the time u buy them.

i use ro water that i buy from a marine fish store salinity is at 1.024 typically i acclimate shrimp for bout an hour

How do you acclimate them? Floating the bag, drip acclimation, etc.

I would test the water in the bag the next time you buy a shrimp. Maybe the water at the store has a different salinity than your tank or something.

do you supplement iodine? I know shrimp do need iodine for proper molting...do you have nems or a trigger by chance?

yes i use iodine. no trigger fish. i have a purple tang, hippo tang, orange lined tang, blond naso tang, four lyrtail anthias, five green chromis, one yellow tail blue damsel, a manderan fish, solar fairy wrasse, a flasher wrasse, a lamarks angel, one dispar anthias, and two tank raised clowns

just an update i bought two peppermint shrimp ive seen at least one on two seperate ocasions there is a lot of rock in my tank so its hard to find these things if they dont want to be found ive only seen them or one when i feed my fish

Just curious if there were copper levels in my tank wouldnt i see other inverts being affected all my snails, crabs, and stars are doin very well as far as i can tell. The snails r also multiplying like crazy

I think shrimp are more sensitive to copper than most other critters. I would just buy a $10.00 ploy filter pad rather than a test kit. Toss it in and poly filters are good to use every now and again.
