Shrimp sending signals from 1 aquarium to next

Ok so i had something very odd happen to me and it has blown my mind. I cant seem to find anything online researching it.

I have a cleaner shrimp in my 90 gallon reef. I ordered 2 fire shrimp and have had them in quarantine a few days now. For a little background in the 2 months i have had my cleaner in 90 he never molted.

When i woke up today both shrimp in the quarantine and my cleaner shrimp molted.

Are shrimp like women in the comparison of that time of the month changing to the other woman's?

They are more than 15 ft apart in separate aquariums obviously.

Cleaner shrimps in the same aquarium never molt at the same time. They are spontaneous hermaphrodites and they can only fertilize the other shrimp when it molt

MAybe it was an atmospheric trigger? Barometric pressure or moon phase or something?

If this happen 5 time in a roll then we can start to look at things that caus eit. 1 time, most likely just coincidence.

I recall awhile back a thread discussing many many serpent stars spawning on the same day. With owners replying claiming theirs were spawning too.

There is a theory in which sometimes animals react on a lunar cycle.. reports of it happening in captivity are scarce but most if any claim to have open windows visible from inside of the tank. Just keep an eye out for these events to happen again and if a open window is present consiture that. Probably coinecidental.

Its probably the moon cycle, all fish (to my knowledge) behave based on moon patterns, i know spawning sure is so molting may be too

Cleaner shrimps are spontaneous hermaphrodites. They are male and female at the same time. The molting shrimp acts as female and the non molting shrimp acts as male. They can only get the eggs fertilize when one of them molt. Because of this reason cleaner shrimp do not molt at the same time if they pair up. One molt and about two weeks later the other molt. They, if mature and good nutritional condition, get pregnant as they molt. They dont actually get internaly pregnant, they just lay egg and carry it aound under their belly (the one that lay the eggs)<O</O

These are not paired up shrimp. These are seperate specimens in different tanks. Which.. much like the serpent starfish thread (very old thread) are all in seperate containment and this may or may not be coinicidental.


IIRC shrimp are more than capable of producing Nonfertilized eggs as well meaning they wouldn't need a mate to live off a specific cycle.
