Shrimps

I just recently purchased two shrimps for my reef a Blood Red and a Coral Banded. I am curious about their behavior, they've been in the tank around a month and the only time I see them is when I search and find them hiding upside down on a cliff/ledge but never out in the open. Their tank mates are reef safe fish, blue hippo, lavender tang, foxface, chromis, and clown fish.

What gives I spend $35 for the blood shrimp because of his awesome bright red color, and never get to see him. Am I doing something wrong? What should I feed to attract him to come out and play?
Thanks,:sad2: Disappointed Reefer

That's perfectly normal for the blood red from what i've heard. The skunk cleaners aren't quite as nice looking but they are way more active.

the blood red will always be kinda reclusive. but the cleaner shrimp should eventually comeout into the more as time goes by. mine is out in the open most of the time, but he is out the most when i feed the tank. my cleaner likes to crawl all over me when my hands are in the tank. but he was kinda skidish and reclusive when i first bought him.

Red Blood Shrimp

Is it true that in the ocean the Blood shrimp is actually black and reclusive to avoid predators in the reef? I asked my LFS and thats what he said, but also said that w/ time he'll come out in the open more often.

Thanks for the replies I thought I had a scary cat which was not common. LOL.....

I don't know if the behaviors vary from CB shrimp to GCB shrimp, but I would assume the only difference is aggresiveness.

In that case, I would expect that your CB shrimp will start going into the open when it's comfortable with the tank. Mine hides out in the rocks attacking my hermits when he gets the opportunity, as well as feeding on whatever falls. He'll run out and do a lap on the sand, or clean his other legs, etc...
