Shy YWG?

I had a yellow watchman goby in QT for 4 weeks and he did well. He ate mostly frozen mysis and would even eat flake food. I transferred him to my DT which was empty (having just completed an 8 week fallow period). When he was in the tank by himself, he was usually in evidence in the front of the tank. The next day, I added the 4 fish that had been in a hospital tank. The YWG took up residence in the rockwork on one side of the tank. He as made a few brief visits to the "front step" of his chosen home, but does not come out to eat when I feed the other fish? Should I be worried about this behavior or is he just getting used to his new home? I have not had this type of fish before.

How long has he been in the DT? Also it may take him a few days to get adjusted to his new home. Are any of the fish in the DT aggressive? I bought a wrasse that stayed hidden for a week before he finally decided that he wanted to come "play" , and eat with the others. Now you cant get him to go away lol. good luck

What are the other fish? IME the Ywg doesn't like purple tangs, rabbit fish, etc---mine hid until I got rid of same. Now he runs the tank, being about the biggest guy in there. What I noticed was that if another fish has a yellow head, no problem: a yellow tail---my Ywg hides. Go figure. ;) Probably coincidence. He may not like tangs.

YWG has only been in the tank for two and a half days. The other fish are not aggressive and have been ignoring him as far as I can tell. Maybe I'll use the turkey baster next time I feed and put a little food in his "front door". Thanks

I had a YWG in my previous reef tank. He was one of the first inhabitants, but was always a bit skitterish and shy. When I sold off the main tank I kept him in a nano for awhile and with no other fish around he was out and about much more.

Thanks all! The YWG was out and about a little more by the end of the day. Still sticking near his hideout but took a few short trips around that side of the tank. When he saw me he looked as if he was expecting food (remembering his solo QT days) but he seems intimidated by the other fish during the "feeding frenzy"
