Sicce 2500??

I just got my first skimmer today, an Octx160. It is almost new from a member on here. It has the white pinwheel and no other mods. The pump is VERY loud, and there is alot of turbulence inside the body. Everything inside the pump seems to be ok, pinwheel, ceramic shaft, magnet. Is there anything I should check or do?

How long was the skimmer ran before you bought it? The sicce can be very loud the first 3 weeks or so then it starts to quiet down as time goes by. I would let it sit for awhile and see if it doesn't get more quiet as time goes by.

As for the turbulence inside the body issue that you're having. This happens frequently in more "modern" skimmers. Most manufactures try an pump to much water and to much air into a skimmer body that just isn't able to handle it. In turn they add a bubble plate to try and reduce the turbulence inside the skimmer.
Sometimes the bubble plate is effective, sometimes it isn't.
Check out this thread for more info why bubble plates may not be as effective as matching the right pump to the right skimmer body. On side note, Jeff also goes into a little bit of detail between the relationship between ER and ASM. I found the thread to be an interesting read.

It was claimed to be only used for a month, but I just found a post by the seller complaining about the noise and stating that he bought it from someone else who had it for a few weeks.
